Stephen Tamke PhotoBorn on Long Island, Fr. Stephen is a lifelong Episcopalian, having grown up at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, NY. There, he was raised up in the Cathedral Choir of Men & Boys and developed his love of sacred Choral Music, the Anglican Choral Tradition, and his love for Jesus Christ and his Church. Fr. Stephen began his ministry here at St. John's in June of 2017. 


Fr. Stephen graduated in 2013 from CUNY Queens College with B.A. in Secondary Education, Social Studies. In 2014 he began his studies at Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) in Alexandria, VA. During his time at VTS he was the Music Department Teaching Assistant, and was the Deacon/Seminarian for two years at The Falls Church, an historic Episcopal Parish in Falls Church, VA. While there, he helped coordinate and plan youth group programming with the Associate Rector, as well as preach on a regular basis. 


In January of 2017, Fr. Stephen was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City. He graduated from VTS in May of 2017 and began here at St. John's the following month. Fr. Stephen was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests in September 2018.


Here at St. John's, Fr. Stephen works with our Director of Children's Ministry & Outreach in planning and leading our Sunday School Programs. Additionally, Fr. Stephen collaborates with the Director of Music Ministry as they help build up the St. John's music ministry with the Choral Scholar and Children's Community choir programs. Pastoral Care, preaching, youth progrmamming, and music are all aspects of Fr. Stephen's ministry for which he is passionate here at St. John's.
