CHRISTOPHER BRAYNE

New Director of Music Ministry

Chris Brayne

The Rector, Wardens, and Vestry are delighted to announce the appointment of Christopher Brayne as the new Organist and Director of Music Ministry at St. John’s of Lattingtown Episcopal Church.

A Message from the Rector, Fr. Mark Fitzhugh:

The Vestry and I are thrilled that Chris will be joining our ministry team at St. John’s Church. I want to sincerely thank our music advisory committee who served the Church very well in this process and gave helpful guidance to me and the Vestry. I am delighted that there was a unanimous decision by the Vestry to offer this position to Chris Brayne.

Chris is a remarkable musician who has an international reputation, a strong faith in Jesus Christ and a working knowledge and love of the liturgy of the Anglican Church. Chris comes to us from All Saints Church in Odiham, in the Hampshire District of England (40 miles west of London).

Chris familyIt has been very clear to me from our first meetings that Chris and his family will fit well into our parish life and the North Shore community.  We very much look forward to welcoming Chris and his wife Jenny on May 7th - his first Sunday to play at both services here at St. John’s. Their two daughters Sophie and Emma currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Chris enjoys working with all ages, and his role as Director of Music Ministry will extend well beyond the organ bench and rehearsal hall. He plans to be an active member of the Diocese of Long Island’s church music community, and has a special interest in music outreach ministry. Chris has a fantastic sense of humor, which adds to the joy that is at the heart of all we do at St. John’s. Chris loves to teach and will be able to cultivate our choristers’ who have a wide range of musical abilities.

Experience:

Through the years, St. John’s has enjoyed a wonderful tradition of inspiring choral music, and now as we turn the page to begin a new chapter in our long history, we are excited to welcome and support Chris as he works to develop a music education program for children, youth, and adults.
