St John's Choral Scholar Program

St John’s of Lattingtown is introducing a new Choral Scholar Program (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) for gap year, undergraduate and postgraduate students to sing with St John’s Parish Choir from the academic year 2017/2018.


Choral scholars must be in full-time education and are appointed for one semester at a time; scholarships can be renewed semester on semester by mutual consent and subject to meeting expectations. The choir rehearses on Sundays from 9:15am – 10:15am followed by Choral Eucharist at 10:30am.  In addition, there is a program of Choral Evensongs on some Sundays during semesters and concert opportunities. The scholarships have a degree of flexibility, designed to suit School/College/University semesters.

What is expected of a potential Choral Scholar:

  • Good sight-singing and aural skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Team player

What are the benefits for a Choral Scholar:

Application process:

  • Letter of application detailing musical contributions and accomplishments, potential for success in the choral music profession, and professional qualifications.
  • 2 letters of recommendation one of which must be current vocal teacher

Audition Process:

Candidates will be expected to present 2 contrasting songs (candidate’s choice) There will further tests to assess sight-singing, aural and theory skills. The process will take up to 20 minutes. An accompanist will be provided.
