Mark adventFr. Mark Fitzhugh became the Eighth Rector of St. John's of Lattingtown on May 17th, 2015.

Previously, he served from 2010-2015 as the Rector of  St. Simon's on the Sound Episcopal Church in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

From 2003-2010, Fr. Mark was the Assistant to the Rector at Christ Church in Greenwich, Connecticut where he was the chaplain to the men and boys choir program.

In 2001, he was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Alabama by the Rt. Rev'd Henry N. Parsley, Jr. and served two years as Rector of the Church of the Messiah in Heflin, Alabama.  He earned his Master of Divinity degree from The General Theological Seminary in New York.  While at GTS, he served under the direction of The Rev'd Barbara Crafton at St. Cement's Church in Manhattan, and The Rev'd Bill Tully at St. Bartholomew's Church on Park Avenue in New York City.

mark and bishopBefore entering the ordained ministry, Fr. Mark worked at the Epilepsy Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama to help provide special services for young children with disabilities. 

From 1985-1994, he worked in media relations as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.  While in Waco, he was a Stephen's Minister at St. Paul's Episcopal Church under the guidance of Fr. Rayford B. High (later Suffragan Bishop of Texas).

His father, USAF Major William N. Fitzhugh, was a WWII pilot and in 1942 flew alongside General Jimmy Doolittle on their historic raid on Tokyo, Japan. A native of Mobile, Alabama, Fr. Mark has two older brothers John and Mike, who both live in Fairhope, Alabama. Fr. Mark did his undergraduate work at the University of South Alabama.

"I feel extremely blessed that God has called me to this important ministry at St. John's," said Fr. Mark. "Clearly, there is a long tradition of excellent liturgy, music, and Spiritual Formation for all ages in this beautiful church. I am excited to work with so many creative leaders to help further the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this community."

Fr. Mark and his wife Cheri have two teenage daughters, Emma and Ella.
